sportsequip.co.uk sells the widest range of Tennis Nets available in the UK, including types used at major events such as Wimbledon, The Olympics, the US Open and many other ATP and WTA events.

You can choose a headband made from traditional cream 'canvas', white spun polyester or vinyl coated fabric. All 3 types come sewn to a range of nets, made from 2.5mm to 3.5mm twisted or braided netting.

All our tennis nets come with an integral plastic coated steel headline wire, with a loop one end and a pin the other, for fixing to the most common type of UK tennis posts. Singles tennis nets, a made-to-measure custom net service and double loop headlines are all also available.

Choosing the right tennis net

The two main decisions to make when choosing a new tennis net are the headband type and the net thickness. In addition you then also need to decide whether you also want the extra strip of netting along the top of the net - Double Netting Top, more of which below.

Headbands (the white band that runs across the top of the length of the net) are available in either a traditional cream / white 'canvas' type material or a wipe clean vinyl material. Each has their own benefits, such as aesthetics, maintenance or durability. Find out more in our net buying guide.

Netting thicknesses - Tennis nets are manufactured in a choice of thicknesses, 2.5mm and 3.5mm. In simple terms the thicker the netting, the more durable the net.

Headband stitching - sportsequip now offer only the entry level nets with two rows, or double stitching along the headband. For the rest of the range we have settled upon the stronger four rows - quad stitching, increasing the durability and likely life expectancy of the net. Headband Options

• 'Canvas' headbands - Cream coloured; hard wearing with a traditional textured finish.
• Spun polyester headbands - White; woven from treated yarn to enhance visibility, maximise durability and minimise distortion.
• Vinyl coated fabric headbands - White; durable and easy to keep clean.

Headband Stitching

Over time most nets fail because the stitching holding the net to the headband deteriorates. In most cases the whole net is tired and ready for replacement, but it can be frustrating if the netting is otherwise in good condition. This is why sportsequip now only offer 'quad stitched' nets as standard across most of the range.

• Standard double stitching - An economic two rows of stitching to hold the netting to the headband. For entry level and lowest use courts.
• Quad stitching - Four rows of stitching are used, providing additional strength and prolonging the life expectancy of the tennis net. Now adopted by sportsequip across the majority of our tennis net range.

Double Netting Top

Another option for consideration is the Double Netting Top, a double layer of netting covering the top six rows of mesh on the tennis net. This type of net is becoming increasingly popular, particularly abroad they and used at the Australian Open. Double Netting reinforces the area of the net most likely to be struck by the ball during competitive play, especially when serving. The double layer of netting is said to provide extra durability and also to extend the lifespan of the net. Against that, Double Netting Tops also add additional weight to the net and extra strain onto the headband stitching. On balance, in sportsequip's opinion in reality it becomes a purely aesthetic decision for the customer.

Netting Options

• 2.5mm twisted - Low cost entry level nets for low use domestic and public courts. Come both with or without the edge tapes.
• 3.5mm braided - The best weight; all quality nets use this stronger interwoven polyethylene fibre. As seen at Wimbledon and other major international tournaments.

Other Available Options

• Singles tennis nets - 33ft long nets, available off the shelf.
• Special length tennis nets - we can make any non-standard length to order, up to around 42ft 9 inches (13 metres).
• Double loop headlines - These fit continental manufactured tennis posts, not common in the UK, so made to order only.
