Sports Lite Portable Floodlights - Frequently Asked Questions

What is included with a set of Sports Lite portable floodlights?

Sports Lite training kits purchased from sportsequip come complete with everything you need to set up the units including tripods, light heads, batteries, multibank chargers and carry bags.

There are also options, including fence fixing adaptors, additional batteries and ballast bags, available. Please contact us via phone or email if you require further information or advice.

How high does the tripod extend?

The tripod is designed to extend up to 3 metres high and, with an extra wide footprint, is one of the most stable in the market, even up to 25mph winds (or 35mph with optional extra ballast bags).

How much does a Sports Lite unit weigh?

Each Sports Lite weighs a total of 11kg. The light head weighs 4.5kg and the tripod 6.5kg.

What warranty do the Sports Lites come with?

The Sports Lites come with a 1 year repair and replace warranty on all electrical parts and 5 years on all metalwork. Both exclude fair wear and tear and damage caused by vandalism or misuse.

What is the IP rating of the Sports Lite

The Sports-Lite is waterproof to IP65 and therefore suitable for use in all training conditions.

How are the Sports Lites packed and stored when not in use?

The lights come with 2 waterproof storage bags for each pair of lights.

One bag holds 2 tripods and measures about 160 x 28 x 14 cm, while the other takes 2 lightheads with batteries and is 36 x 34 x 25 cm approx.

We recommend storing them in a secure indoor location, ideally at a temperature between 5°C and 20°C (41°F and 68°F).

How long does the light bulb last for?

There is no light bulb. The light head is made up of a series of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) within a module. The estimated rated life of these is 40,000 hours, which means that, If they were to be used for 2 hours a day 5 days a week for 8 months of the year, they would last over 100 years. So replacement is unlikely to be necessary under normal circumstances. However, if you do need new ones for any reason, they can be found here: Sports Lite Floodlight LED Light Head.

How long does the battery last on a single full charge?

The Sports Lite high energy density lithium battery will last up to 2 hours 20 minutes on a single full charge. For longer training sessions the batteries can be swapped over for spares (available as an optional extra).

If purchasing additional batteries with the lights please consider whether it will be practical to use the same chargers for both sets or if you will require extra ones.

For more information about the lithium batteries please see the separate care and information datasheet here.

How can I tell how much charge my battery has left?

The state of charge (SOC) is indicated via the 5 LED display on the battery. When the battery ‘power on’ button is depressed, the LEDs will show the charge level. If the single red LED and all four green LEDs are illuminated then the battery is fully charged. As the battery discharges the green LEDs will gradually go out. When only the red LED shows, the battery is low and those relying on the light should finish the task in hand so they aren’t suddenly left in darkness. At approximately 5% SOC the red LED will flash. When the battery is completely exhausted no LEDs will show until the battery is placed on charge again.

How long does it take to charge the battery?

The 200Wh lithium battery takes about 6 hours to charge from flat to full capacity. We recommend keeping your batteries fully charged ready for use if the lights are being used regularly.

If the lights are being stored and not used for a prolonged period then, to maintain battery life, please keep the product charged over 30% at all times, ideally at around 50% capacity. Lithium batteries slowly self-discharge when not in use or in storage so be sure to regularly check the battery’s charge status and top up if necessary.

Please note that, during charging, the battery is only fully charged when the battery shows 4 green lights and 1 red light and the charger shows a green light.

Can I leave the batteries charging overnight?

The batteries can be charged in a well ventilated area at any time when they are not in use.

What charger options are available?

We supply all of our light bundles with an appropriate number of multibank chargers, which enable 4, 5 or 6 batteries to be charged from a single power socket.

Do the lights come with full instructions?

Yes. You will be supplied with an operator's manual which will explain how to operate the product. A copy can also be downloaded from our website here: *****.

Alternatively user set up videos and the manual can be accessed via the QR code located on each light head.

Do you need planning permission for these lights?

Our experience suggests that no planning permission is required to use the Sports Lites, however it is worth checking with your local authority, especially if you are purchasing the fence fixed option. We would also recommend speaking to nearby residents to reduce the risk of complaints. When doing so it is worth noting that the Sports Lites are fitted with 'beam control technology' which is specifically designed to maximise the amount of usable light produced and minimise light pollution into neighbouring properties. Further details can be found on the Floodlight Output and Beam Control Information datasheet.

How long does it take to set up the lights?

Each pair of tripods can be set up by a single person in less than 2 minutes, even a full pitch of 14 lights can be set up in less than 5 minutes by 4 people.

Do the tripods need to be pegged down?

No. Our tripod is one of the most stable on the market and is rated to withstand winds of up to 25mph.

There is also an additional stability bag set available as an optional accessory which enables the lights to be used in winds of up to 35mph.

How many lights do I need?

This is one of the most common questions that we get asked and the answer depends on a number of factors including:

  • The size of the area that you are playing on
  • The number of people that will be playing
  • The level of lighting you require
  • Your budget

We are always happy to offer specific advice for your situation, but some general guidelines are set out below.

Approximate area illuminated by lights (length x width):

2 = 15m x 40m
4 = 30m x 40m
6 = 45m x 40m
8 = 60m x 40m
10 = 75m x 40m
12 = 90m x 40m
14 = 105m x 40m
